We are very proud of the fact that our menu is 100% plant-based with absolutely no cholesterol, animal fat, trans fat or high-fructose corn syrup. Numerous studies have shown that eating 100% plant-based foods is the best way to reduce your risk of heart disease, cancer and diabetes, and to maintain a healthy weight.
Why can you eat a hearty meal at The Veggie Grill and not feel bloated or tired afterwards? It is because good calories give you energy and are digested easily, while bad calories take up energy as your body has to work harder to digest and burn them.
Our good calories are packed with nutrients and we work diligently to ensure that they are completely free of cholesterol, animal fat, trans fat, high-fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors and artificial preservatives. The proof of whether our calories are good for you is in how you feel after your meal.
Nutritionists agree that it is the quality of the calories you eat on which you should focus, not the quantity. In fact, most calorie reduction diets end up slowing your metabolism. This causes you to gain weight when you end up needing to satisfy your hunger. We pride ourselves at The Veggie Grill on providing you with nutritious, satisfying food that fills you up without weighing you down. Focusing your diet on good calories allows you to maintain a healthy weight and stave off a variety of ailments, from heart disease to cancer.
Our 100% plant-based protein sources have excellent benefits that animal protein does not – they contain fiber and complex carbohydrates, whereas meat has none. Plus, plant-based protein doesn’t contain the harmful elements of other protein sources – cholesterol and saturated animal fats.
Fats are an important part of a healthy diet. They provide essential fatty acids, keep your skin soft, deliver vitamins, and are a great source of energizing fuel. USDA Guidelines recommend that adults get 20% – 35% of their calories from fats. But it’s easy to get confused about good fats vs. bad fats. Trans fat and saturated animal fats are linked to heart disease and are harder for your body to digest. Our 100% plant-based fats provide you with essential fatty acids that your body needs and utilizes.
Sometimes you just need to indulge. Hence the need for desserts. Indulgent desserts commonly contain trans fat, cholesterol, eggs and dairy. They help create that creamy, moist, indulgent taste and texture. However, they are also hard for your body to burn off.
All our desserts are free of trans fat, cholesterol, eggs and dairy. Apple sauce, tofu and evaporated cane juice are some of the natural sources we use to create indulgent desserts that you can feel less guilty about eating.
Classic comfort food you can feel good about eating. That’s what The Veggie Grill and our Sweetheart Fries are all about. You can feel good about our sweet potato fries for two reasons. First of all, sweet potatoes have more calcium, vitamin C and antioxidant-rich beta-carotene than white potatoes. In fact, a serving of sweet potato fries has over a day’s worth of Vitamin A. Secondly, we use canola oil for all our frying, which is free of trans fat and rich in polyunsaturated good fats.
Many of our items at The Veggie Grill contain soy. Soy products have been around for thousands of years and are a dietary staple in many regions of Asia. Research has shown that people in these regions have lower rates of heart disease, breast and prostate cancer, fewer hip fractures and fewer hot flashes. In addition, dozens of clinical studies have supported health benefits of diets rich in soy.
There has been recent press regarding studies that contradicted the protective elements of soy to women. However, the uncertainty surrounding soy concerns high doses of soy isoflavones taken in the form of pills or powders in quantities larger than provided by a normal diet. Nutritionists agree that soy, in the form of food, is part of a healthy, balanced diet, with many benefits that include high-quality proteins, protective isoflavones and essential fatty acids.
